Aims & Goals
The initial aims of previous “Business Associations” in the community were to protect the area and correct false statements about Spryfield, to network with businesses, to address issues of the day that were affecting businesses, and to serve for the betterment of the community with the hopes that they would bring more business to the Spryfield area. These aims remain the same for the “Spryfield and District Business Commission” formed in 2003. In 2016 the Board of Directors for the Commission put forth a motion to amend the name of the Spryfield and District Business Commission and to update the Brand. This was passed and we are now known as the Spryfield Business Commission.
By fostering its relationships with Municipal and Provincial political representatives and staff at Halifax Regional Municipality the Commission has been able to create an attitude of government support for positive community change. It is this “new attitude” by government that will bridge the gap between deficiencies in the community and solutions to betterment.
Achievements & Activities
Planting the Seed
The Seeds of Success in Spryfield were originally planted by some of the first settlers in the community and that tradition continues today.
The seeds of the Spryfield and District Business Commission** were originally planted by an informal business association in the early 1990’s consisting of many prominent local business owners. In 2003 the SDBC was formalized as a “Business Improvement District” under a service agreement with the Halifax Regional Municipality and we have been growing ever since.
With over 150 members the SBC works to ensure that our member businesses continue to grow and prosper.
Our goal in planting the “Seeds of Success” is to ensure an all encompassing business district with a unique mix of retail, services and products and hospitality to ensure a growing residential community that appeals to people of all ages, backgrounds and interests.
Given the commercial, residential and community services growth along with the growing positive image of Spryfield it is evident the “Seeds of Success” will continue to grow into the future.
* In May of 2017 the Spryfield and District Business Commission applied for was granted their new operating name Spryfield Business Commission *
