In 2010, the Edward Jost Children’s Centre in Spryfield celebrated its 100th year; making it the oldest daycare in Metro.
According to the historical records, the Edward Jost Children’s Centre was founded in the 1860s by Halifax businessman Edward Jost. Originally located on Brunswick Street in Halifax; the current location of the Halifax Metro Centre. Amongst it’s charitable works, Edward Jost’s mission provided childcare and, in 1910, it opened a nursery school and after school program.
Today the Edward Jost Children’s Centre located in Spryfield, NS and is the oldest daycare in metro Halifax. A non-profit daycare centre with over 100 years of providing quality childcare to the local people of Halifax. In 2011 it opened it’s second building right next door, Edward Jost Annex.
Currently with the two centres we have 108 licensed spaces for children ages 6 months to 5 years. Edward Jost Chidren’s Centre and Edward Jost Annex are one of the most modern and educationally orientated child care centres in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
