STUDENTS

The Spryfield Business Commission believes that education is the foundation of our future.  As part of our efforts to support and encourage that in our local youth, the SBC will award at least one scholarship per year valued at $500 in memory of our friend and business leader Eric Caines, who tragically passed away on May 2, 2020 following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Scholarships will be awarded to eligible J.L. Ilsley High School graduates who are pursuing studies at a post-secondary institution.

You can download the PDF application here, fill it out and send it along before May 16th to admin@discoverspryfield.ca.

SUPPORTERS

If you’d like to honour Eric’s memory and make a donation towards the scholarship, you can send an etransfer to info@discoverspryfield.ca.  Please follow up with an email providing your name and address. If we receive enough donations, we will award multiple scholarships.

We know Eric would be proud to be remembered in such a meaningful way, helping local youth get a leg up in their post-secondary journey.

RECIPIENTS

In 2022, we awarded 5 scholarships to J.L. Isley graduates.  Recipients are:  Danae Conrad, Jasmine Freckelton, Grace Henneberry, Jamila Natividad, and Amy Schnare.

In 2021, we raised enough money to award 9 scholarships to deserving J.L. Ilsley graduates.

In no particular order, those students were:  Jessica Norman, Breagh Langille, Lenka Sevcik, Anna Jericho, Matthew Hunter Smith, Chloe Leights, Rachel Cormier, Alexander Hines, and Austin Karl Harvey

In 2020, we had the pleasure of presenting Laura LeBlanc with our first Eric Caines Memorial Scholarship.  Laura is a 2020 graduate of J.L. Ilsley High School and will be studying business at Saint Mary’s University.  We wish her best of luck in her future, and hope that the $500 scholarship eases some of the financial burden of post-secondary studies.
