Long Lake Provincial Park is one of Spryfield’s most treasured natural spaces, and since 2026, stewardship of the trails at the park has been supported by a dedicated volunteer committee named “The Friends of Long Lake Park Trails” operating under the Spryfield Business Commission. Made up of local residents, community members, and volunteers with a wide range of professional and lived experiences, the committee works collaboratively to develop strategies, identify priorities, and partner with provincial departments to help maintain and improve the park.

While the committee does not have authority for law enforcement and operates within the limits of available funding and volunteer capacity, it plays an important role in supporting trail maintenance, environmental stewardship, and visitor experience. Through strong community involvement and ongoing collaboration with the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources, the Friends of Long Lake Park Trails help ensure Long Lake Provincial Park remains a beautiful, welcoming, and safe place for everyone to enjoy.

The Friends of Long Lake Park Trails also helps build community involvement through clean-up events, community breakfasts, fundraising initiatives, and volunteer opportunities that support the ongoing stewardship of the park. Our first community clean-up and breakfast, held in May 2026, brought together a wonderful group of residents who were eager to lend a hand, remove litter from the trails, and celebrate their shared commitment to caring for this important natural space. Donations from these initiatives help support trail maintenance, stewardship projects, and future community events.
